Kingly Musical

Posted : 10 months, 2 weeks ago on 13 January 2009 03:31 (A review of The Lion King (1997 Original Broadway Cast))

This musical is great the best show I have ever seen. I've seen this production four times and each time i've seen it the cast has been amazing and acted and sung the songs perfectly. The costumes are really beautiful and so are the sets that have been made for this show, they are based on african tribal traditions and wear rather than the animated film which gives the show it's own identity seperate from the film. The puppets used in the film along with the countless dancers make all the peices in the show awe-inspiring to watch. The songs from the film are translated really well and given new depth with the different sets of instruments used by the band and the vocals are less americanised and performed in a much more spirtual way than they were in the film. Some of the new songs are hit and miss but the ones taken from Lebo M's Rhythm of the Pride Lands album stand up against the John/Rice tracks. If you see only one production at the theatre in your lifetime it must be this, although I doubt Disney will stop the cash cow any time soon see it as many times as you can incase they do.

Folk Rock at it's best

Posted : 10 months, 2 weeks ago on 13 January 2009 12:14 (A review of Bob Dylan : Greatest Hits)

A strong collection of Bob Dylan's greatest hits. Despite not being the greatest singer or guitarist Bob Dylan is one of the greatest song writers and this compiliation showcases some of the best of his work. His voice and words in each track hold so much charm it's unreal, his songs are political, philosophical and meant to bring social reform and these topics give depth to each song. His work that remains unique still today and the influences come from all corners such as blues, country, folk and R&B. A great introduction to his rich work which holds strong melodies.

Masterpeices

Posted : 10 months, 2 weeks ago on 13 January 2009 07:28 (A review of The Legend Of Johnny Cash: Volume II)

Features the best of the best of Johnny Cash's lesser know tracks and has some country classics on a single disc. It features some awesome rare recordings of Johnny Cash peforming with Bob Dylan which is an absoulte treat for any folk fans. The cover of Ain't me Babe with his lover June Carter is probabley one of my favourite tracks ever that will stick with me for ever. This Cash volume contains tracks that cover all aspects of his career and icludes some of his lesser heard gospel songs which are undermined by some of his other hits those tracks are worth a listen alone. A must own.

Unmissable remasters

Posted : 10 months, 3 weeks ago on 11 January 2009 09:50 (A review of Elvis: 30 #1 Hits)

Similar to the 1 (Beatles) album out, Elvis 30 is an offer no one can refuse. Neophytes trying to catch up music greats will hit a gold mine and so will fans who will hear significant upgrades in sound quality. The tracks have been remastered and remixed and this is the first time the masters have been touched since they have been put in storage. There is a fuller, snappier sound, with tighter bass and the guitars sound way cleaner and detailed taking the songs to a new dimension. The backing vocals and guitar lick's now even seem to hold their own against Elvis' perfect vocals. 31 songs of the highest caliber are on these disc included all his greatest country, R&B and pop songs spanning the entire career of The King. No one in their right mind can turn down this CD.

Punk in Drublic review

Posted : 11 months, 2 weeks ago on 17 December 2008 03:03 (A review of Punk in Drublic)

FAST, BADDASS AND FUNNY. I get everything I love about Punk Rock in this record. I love the simplistic riffs and the lyrics can be clever and moving at times. I can see myself rocking this record to the grave. A Punk rock classic

Gateway into Anti-Folk

Posted : 11 months, 2 weeks ago on 17 December 2008 02:58 (A review of Juno: Music From The Motion Picture)

Yes it's sad to review a soundtrack that isn't orginal score but i'm sorry I love this. It turned me onto the anti-folk scene and into a bit of what is really just intended for children. Kimya Dawson is amazing and listening to this stuff just opened me up to some lo-fi tunes I don't think I'd ever have given the time of day. Thank you Juno

Poor Effort

Posted : 11 months, 2 weeks ago on 17 December 2008 02:51 (A review of Stadium Arcadium)

Not worth the wait and unfortunatly their worst record yet. Looks like a grim future for the Red Hot if this is the best they could churn out.
