Slow but rewarding

The Long Day Closes, directed by Terence Davies is a slow affair and carries a still feel throughout the film. The film is part autobiograhical and despite there being not much dialogue or words spoken in this film every thing is described through the imagery, camera angles and carefully selected music for the sound track. It recalls childhood very well. This will definitely not cater to everybodies taste but will be rewarding and thoughtful to those of the right matureity for the film.

Rocking the Flux Capacitor

Totally feel good. Marty Mcfly is the coolest kid around and we all know it, we can all relate to him because we all want to be more like him. He's quick with the quips he pulls the girls (and his mum) and he can ride a mean skateboard. In this wacky adventure through time you come to love the characters introduced and start rooting for Marty and his Dad, George, as he trys to hook him up with his mum in the 1950's to avoid himself dissapearing. The alternate timelines are a laugh and it's funny to see how all the characters drastically change so quickly (espically the school bully Biff Tannen). The film is suprisingly well written for what it is on surface level and nobody says nothing that isn't coming right back in our face later or isn't in direct realtion the story or events. Doc Brown also needs a shout out for his loveable wacky ways! The combinations of action, comedy, sci-fi and romantic subplots make this film a quintessential of the 80's with all the elements to make people of all tastes enjoy this fun ride.

Funny tragi-comedy

Billy Fisher wants to escape his dull repeatative life but when a chance to actually get away announces it's self he bottles it and decides to go back to his old safe life and continue to live in his world of fantasy and dreams. Billy Liar represents the 60's really well showing how people under the old framework of soceity wanted to escape their lives but were just too scared to. It also shows the people who had changed there lives who had a free existance from rules and expectations. A good watch if not for the laughs but the social observations.

Der Fuehrer's Face ist Lustig!

A funny piece of propaghanda. Nothing really beats a bit of slapstick humour at the expense of the Nazis and Hitler. Despite being a quickly thrown out short film for motivating the US troops it is infact very well made traditional hand drawn animation. The song played throughout is pretty comical and the exaggerations really just make us hate those Nazi hate tanks even more and give a great feeler to the viewer that we live in a democracy. Stands up today and is alot funnier and of a higher standard than alot of cartoons produced today, but probabley not for the kids, don't think the youth of today need to be exposed to Nazi jokes or old propaghanda films. Classic early disney animation from during it's hay day of short films and sketches

Comforting Indie-flick

Snow cake is a top-notch drama with some sad touching moments and light humour to keep you going. The film is quite thought provacative and it throws a quite down to earth character study of autism at us. The contrast between the three main characters is amazing and they work so well together. The opening and closing to this film are the strongest and most moving aspects of it as they both give great likeable characters to the audience and then pull them away from us. A well made and potrayed film dealing with how people cope with loss.

Greatest Western

Once again takes what the previous installment was and blows it out the ballpark. The new soundtrack is one of the greatest ones ever written and is instantanously recognisable and fits the mood of the film completley. The cinematography is as perfect as ever filled with just as many long pauses, areial shots above stand offs and expressionate movements by the camera and cast. The story line is a intrequete one that slowly peices it's threads together throughout a country spanning journey which throws in some amazing action set peices and pyschological battles along the way. The long run time is no issue. Classic film anyone can enjoy, even if you don't like westerns.

Some fun action just no good funny...

Falls short of the other installments in the series and some of the stuff in it is just cringeable. The jokes fall slow and short in this film and very little comedy is present throughout the hour and forty minutes. The biggest joke in the film is the obvious parody at Disney which just isn't funny or clever, it's all been done before. This makes the series seem formulatic after the same basic premise has happened in all three films. The second was good because it still managed to throw new things and be funny but this one just couldn't cough up anything new. Non-off Murphy's adlibs are in this film he just falls short constantly and doesn't tear up trouble like in the other films, it makes it seem like Foley has become a more respectful guy. This film cheapens the rest of the series but at least it has some comical over the top action and some intresting set pieces.

Neo-Noir Thriller

Memento is presented in a nonlinear narrative structure that not even Quentin Tarrentino has thrown at us. The way it's presented and edited together really makes the viewer think about how they percieve their own memories and in the process throws a great movie out there too. Memento is a exillerating one time treat. It's a great puzzle film but also a not only a great puzzling film it has the aspects of an atmospheric thriller, making it an incredibly layered film. Unfortunatly confusion is a the key for watching this film so it doesn't entail many rewatches. Memento is just for every few years but when you do watch it you will love it.

Faithful to source material

Neo-noir panel for panel adaptation of the cult comic series is set in a surreal pan-American city which is reflected to a tee by it's unique style. It takes the old genre and drugs it up to a hyper stylised state where the hard boiled dialogue and action seems the norm. Rodriguez and Frank Millar (author and penciller of the books) have brought the comic book movie genre to the end of it's progression as no adaptation will bring anything new to the table after this.
The ensemble cast contains some real greats and Mickey Rourke steals the show. Rodriguez delivers the film in a gorgeously shot peice of expressionist cinematography. Sin City is uncompromising and extreme entertainment.

For just a few more it tops all aspects of the 1st

A great sequel to the first film. Every you'd love about the first one, Clint's cool, Mexican towns, Soundtrack and solid action is back but this time it's all improved on. The script and storyline is alot more prominent in this second outing with The man with no name. Eastwood's dangerously cool enigma is giving some more backstory as we learn he is a bounty hunter. He is head to head with Lee Van Cleef's character in claiming bounties and the story implies that Van Cleef used to be alot like the man with no name until he learned to change his life style. All the characters are a bit more three dimensional in this film and have feelings and you can understand why they are doing things rather than the bland ones that occupied the first film. It has all the smart situations the first did and even greater faceoffs in the streets than the first outing. I love this to bits. The close ups and music cues keep the western feel alive and make many scenes tense and physiological. This series is a must watch as Eastwood is amazing in this film acting spot on.
